Pet Sponsorship Program
We saw a need and met it by adding a Sponsorship Program to our rescue efforts in 2011. This new dimension has been gratefully accepted by individuals facing dilemmas with their own pets or strays they found, because it offers an alternative to their last resort: the local kill shelter. Due to tough economic times N.A.B.S. is unable to assume full financial responsibility for every new pet but having the facility and space is willing to work in conjunction with individuals and assist them in the care and/or placement of their pet/s under the terms of our Sponsorship Program.
The following are examples of how our Sponsorship Program may be able to assist you. If you would like to discuss your particular situation then please do not hesitate to call us:
A. Personal Pet or Rescued Stray comes to The Sanctuary for a monthly donation of $100. and is available for adoption (that is only $3.33/day). This alternative is meant to assist persons with a rescued stray or with the care and re-homing of their personal pet due to an unforeseen life situation versus relinquishment to a local kill shelter. This contract is in effect up to adoption and the monthly donation stops then. IF, in the future said animal should ever be returned original sponsor (you) would be contacted for monthly donation sponsorship until rehomed (further explanation below).
B. Personal Pet comes to The Sanctuary for a monthly donation of $125. (0-15 Days per month at Sanctuary) OR $125. (+ additional $7./day16-30/31 Days per month at Sanctuary; with maximum donation for full month of $230.) and N.A.B.S. shares joint custody with you. This alternative is designed to help the person whose job may require travelling, their lifestyle involves many trips/vacations, facing a necessary move or relocation and they want to keep their pet but need help temporarily or during these transitions versus relinquishment to a local kill shelter.
If you maintain a monthly sponsorship for your pet then they go home with you when you are available and come back to The Sanctuary when you need to leave again...this is flexible to accommodate your schedule and will hopefully eliminate the possiblity of ever having to live without your beloved pet or relinquishing your beloved pet to a shelter for lack of assistance during an interim period. By choosing assistance from N.A.B.S. you are contributing to the well being of all the rescues residing at The Sanctuary as well as protecting the well being of your pet and your donation is a tax deductible expense.
C. This alternative is essentially B, but in order that there be no confusion and for complete clarity it is hereby stated that this personal pet will also be available for adoption. The difference in #A and #C is that this is a personal pet that may or may not permanently reside at The Sanctuary until adoption but will travel between their present home and The Sanctuary. This personal request has the same monthly donation of $125.+ and is figured on length of stay each month.
By receiving assistance through N.A.B.S. Sponsorship Program you are able to do what is best for both your family and your beloved companion. There are now more available ways to solve your situation at Noah’s Ark Bayou Sanctuary. Your monthly donation is also a source of provision for each and every rescue residing at The Sanctuary and is therefore tax deductible. If there is more than one pet and depending on length of time needing assistance, short or long term, your monthly donation may be reduced.
N.A.B.S. is all about rescuing dogs off death row and in particular from shelters who use a form of euthanasia we feel is inhumane, i.e. the gas chamber or heart stick method. However, N.A.B.S. feels it is also important to assist families by offering a place of refuge or safe haven for their pet during a dilemma and/or difficult life situation thus sparing a personal pet being relinquished to a kill shelter.
If that personal pet is taken to an animal control facility which ARE KILL SHELTERS, being an Owner-Turn-In (OTI) is in essence an automatic death sentence. They are not given a 3 day hold since no one will be looking for them as they are not lost, rather turned in by their owner. The local animal control shelters are KILL SHELTERS and there to hold strays only who if not claimed, adopted, or rescued are euthanized. OTI’s are not given that opportunity UNLESS there is room at the inn which is seldom the case.
I hope these alternatives will help you decide what you would like to do short term or long term for your personal pet or rescue. You may choose Alternative A, B, or C. Please specify your situation and the Alternative you choose when requesting approval in the Sponsorship Program.
This saying is very true, "Where there is a Will there is a Way!" Individuals have stepped up and successfully raised the funds from their family or friends in order that their pet or stray is accepted and able to reside safely at The Sanctuary on a temporary or permanent basis or until adoption. Many of the sponsored dogs that have joined N.A.B.S. since February 2011 have already found their forever homes. N.A.B.S. is able to provide any donors to your dogs care with a tax deductible receipt. They can donate on our Paypal account online stipulating in behalf of your dog (stating his name). More lives are able to be saved if we work together this way.
